Amanda Asay of Prince George pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief for the Canadian women’s baseball team in the Pan Am Games championship game against the United States. The USA earned gold with an 11-3 victory. Asay allowed 3 hits & 2 runs (1 earned) and two walks. The 27-year-old Asay (who started as the DH but also played first base in the final) went 0-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks and an RBI. Asay was 4-for-18 in the tournament with 4 RBI’s.

The Canadian women’s baseball team, which includes DH Amanda Asay of Prince George, whipped Venezuela 6-1 in the Pan Am Games semi-final. Asay went 1-for-3 with an RBI boosting her tournament total to 4-for-16 for a .250 average with 3 RBI’s. Canada advances to the gold medal game today (Sunday) against the United States. Canada’s only loss came against the Americans by a score of 3-1 in the round robin.
