Drugs and cash seized by Prince George RCMP during search warrant

The Prince George RCMP has seized drugs and cash in a search warrant.

On September 15th, the Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on the 1400 block of Nation Crescent, where two people were believed to be tracking illicit drugs.

Mounties located and seized over 130 grams of suspected fentanyl, 300 grams of suspected cocaine, 190 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and more than $20,000 in cash.

Two men were arrested and released pending the charge and approval process by the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

“The public is often concerned when they hear police officers have released suspected drug traffickers without immediately forwarding charges,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Cooper said due to the ‘Jordan decision’ caselaw of 2016, police require time to compile a fulsome report which is then submitted to Public Prosecution Service of Canada for their review and charge approval.

“We need to have a certified lab test those drugs and provide their report showing what kind of tests they did, what steps they took to prove what illicit drug it is, and then we can provide that as a part of our report to Crown Council,” she explained.

“We forward that to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, and they then would review it and decide whether or not they were going to approve charges in the matter.”

Cooper adds the RCMP are encouraging the public to report any suspicious activity in their area, and to use Crime Stoppers to help identify people involved in trafficking illicit drugs in the community.
