Kevin Falcon’s BC United Party has found their candidate to replace Mike Morris in the next provincial election.
In front of dozens of supporters at the Northern Lights Estate Winery, Kiel Giddens was named the party’s candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie.
Gidden has previous experience in provincial politics, working in various government roles, such as Chief of Staff for the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.
“It’s a lot of work ahead, but I’m excited,” Giddens said.
“I’ve got a background in politics but also in the private sector. I want to bring that forward.”
Giddens, a husband and a father of two, said he also brings a family experience to the table.
Morris announced he would not be seeking re-election earlier this year.
He said choosing Giddens as his party’s next candidate in the riding was a no-brainer.
“Kiel doesn’t come in with blinders on, he knows what takes place in the legislature, he knows how the party system works,” Morris said.
“What’s most impressive for me, not withstanding his work with Coastal GasLink and building this big project right across British Columbia, but most impressive for me was he did put this team together, he was selling memberships, he was doing all the things a candidate should be doing, but without being named as the candidate.”
The next provincial election isn’t scheduled until October 19th, 2024, but Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond said it’s important for their party to be ready.
So far, the only other candidate announced for the riding is SD 57 Board Chair Rachael Weber, who is running for John Rustad’s Conservative Party.
