ICBC wants to remind drivers about the increase in motorcycles on BC highways during the summer.
Spokesperson Mark Milner explains crash numbers in the North:
“In the North Central region we see on average 39 motorcyclists injured and 5 killed in crashes every year, [However] that is lower than what we see in the Southern Interior, Vancouver Island, or the Lower Mainland”
In the North Central region the months of July and August contribute to just over half of those killed or injured while riding a motorcycle.
Milner says 80% of crashes with motorcycles are due to distracted driving, or failing to yield.
