Many people are expected to be marching through downtown Prince George this evening (Friday) for the annual Take Back the Night march.
According to Tanvi Guhagarkar, the Executive Director of the Northern Women’s Shelter, the evening is there to “honor the memory of the women who have not survived violence; to celebrate who have; and to demand an end to all forms of violence against women.”
“We demand our right to walk safely in the night without fear of any person,” she told My PG Now.
The event will begin with a couple of speeches at Canada Games Plaza at 6:30, while the march begins at 7:00.
Following the march through downtown, an open mic event will be held at the Thirsty Moose pub at UNBC.
Guhagarkar expects “hundreds of people” to join in the march.
She added the march is a family event, and everyone is welcome to join.
