Community welcome for 200+ displaced Ukrainians living in PG being held this weekend

Prince George for Ukraine is hosting a family-friendly event at the BC Railway and Forestry Museum this weekend where residents can properly meet and welcome the community’s newest neighbours.

“It is an opportunity for people to meet and discuss,” Charles Scott, a PG For Ukraine volunteer told My PG Now. “There has been a strong interest in meeting the people that have come to town, hearing their stories, and simply getting to know them.”

All 220 displaced Ukrainians living in Prince George have been invited to the event.

On top of everything else the museum offers, Scott said there will be food and activities for the whole family, saying “if you are going to bring kids to an event, there needs to be food – and there will be.”

The event will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 at the Railway Museum on Sunday (September 10).

Traffic to Prince George slowed down over the summer as the cost of travel increased, but Scott said PG for Ukraine is expecting the influx of people to pick up again as we enter fall.

With that, he said employment opportunities, finances, and housing are all current needs that Share Hope is facing.

“Prince George can feel very good about what we have done so far,” Scott said. “We as a community have done a really good job at helping people find shelter at times of war, and they are very taken with how generous this community has been.”
