PG to benefit from new storm water infrastructure

Prince George has received funding to build a storm water management system to prevent soil erosion and property damage.

The system will carry water from a catching area to an outfall at the Fraser River.

55 projects in BC will receive more than $128 million in federal and provincial funding from the small communities fund.

“Our Government’s commitment to municipalities, big and small, has never been stronger,” says MP Bob Zimmer, “We are investing in priority infrastructure projects that have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of British Columbia’s residents while helping create jobs and economic growth.”

Prince George’s storm management system will cost an estimated $1.4 million.

“I would also like to thank Council and Administration for having the foresight to apply for the grant to fund this important operation,” says Mayor Lyn Hall, “(the system) Will make safe for future development an area of land that is
already the major storm water channel for all of College Heights.”

Cities must have fewer than 100 thousand residents to qualify for the funding.
