The Exploration Place Museum and Science centre in Prince George has received 200 thousand dollars in funding.
C-E-O, Tracy Calogheros says the extra money will help them with storage.
“Has been working with Brenda Gendron over at the Northern Development Initiative Trust for purchasing mobile racking it’s essentially shelves on wheels that allows us to have way more shelving and collection space than we do with the shelves that are stationary.”
Calogheros adds they needed a more cost-effective way to store it’s collections.
“We needed to find a solution that was going to allow us to store more of the communities treasures without needing to expand our building and the logical solution was this condensible racking.”
In June, the City of Prince George passed a resolution to support the application.
The mobile racking will re-configure collection spaces and increase storage capacity for artefacts by over 70 percent.
The funding supports the “Condensed Collections: Just Add Wheels” project.
Final plans for purchasing will be made over the summer with working starting in October with an expected completion of Spring of 2016.
