The provinces of BC and Newfoundland and Labrador have signed an agreement to enhance the mobility of skilled workers in both provinces.
BC Premier, Christy Clark says today’s announcement will help fill a major void.
“To fit the new jobs that are coming, we still would not be able to fill all the jobs in the province, so we are going to have to go outside of British Columbia and across the country to find people wh want to help us.”
Clark adds the new deal is open to all trades people in both provinces.
“This applies not just to the 10 percent of people who are an apprentice, it applies to all trades people in both of our provinces not just 10 percent but 100 percent.”
The agreement will help improve the sharing of labour market information to facilitate workplace employment.
The announcement was made during the 2015 Summer Meeting of Canada’s Premiers.
