PREMIERS COMMIT TO TRC RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER MEETING WITH NATIVE LEADERS

The Premier of Newfoundland Labrador supports the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation re[port last month.

Paul Davis says it’s up to provincial leaders to act on these suggestions.

“Premiers will lend leadership in our own provinces to ensure that we take action on these recommendations that are affect our own jurisdictions and provinces.”

The President of the Native Women’s Association of Canada says it was a slap in the face Ottawa refused to participate in the meeting.

Lavell Harvard says great progress was made with the leaders in attendance.

“The disrespect that they have shown to the missing and murdered aboriginal women in this country by not being here to be part of this process, collectively the leaders who were at the table have made significant commitments that I truly believe will advance the cause.”

BC Premier Christy Clark attended today’s conference.

The premiers met with several aboriginal leaders in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Newfoundland and Labrador.
