A ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) for a brand new community compost garden at UNBC.
The Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society started the work on the project and it will be located beside the new David Douglas Botanical Garden near the university’s residential buildings.
“Our new facility is about three and a half times the size of our previous 27-year old compost garden,” REAPS Executive Director Terri McClymont told My PG Now. “We are going to have a larger space to invite residents, school groups, and individuals to partake in some of our environmental outreach programs.”
The ceremony gets underway at 4pm.
McClymont said the garden will be used for “marginalized and community organizations.”
The public can tour the plant beds and composters, and learn more about how to compost in the north.
