HEAT STRESS ALERT CONTINUES IN BC

People working in the Forestry and Construction industries are literally feeling the heat.

WORKSAFE BC has issued a heat stress alert and Regional Prevention Manager, Bruce Clarke says it’s wise to do your hardest work as early as possible.

“Very strenuous activities especially in construction or forestry or any types of jobs where there is a lot of manual labour to try and set that up instead of the heat of the day to do it in the mornings.”

Tips to avoid heat stress include wearing light coloured clothing, drink plenty of water and take breaks in a well ventilated area.

Symptoms associated with heat stress include excess sweating, dizziness and nausea.

Clarke adds they have not seen anything like this in quite a while.

“Usually it will be sporadic and maybe hit the Okanagan or have a heat wave hit in the Prince George area or the lower mainland but to have it widespread right from the US Border to the Territories and Alaska, it just seems to be province-wide.”
