A new run of river project is providing power to BC Hydro’s ever expanding power grid.
As the Castle Creek hydroelectric station, located just outside of McBride is now up and running.
Mora Scott is a spokesperson for BC Hydro and says the plant provides clean, reliable power among other things:
“… and it connects to an existing distribution line, which is going to help provide power. The facility is going to generate 34 gigawatt hours of clean energy a year, which is enough to power 3,100 homes annually.”
Scott says the project was also designed to provide an “islanding” solution for McBride. Meaning that if power from the main grid was affected, the plant could provide power to the community.
