Another copper wire theft nets a suspect

The Prince George RCMP have arrested yet another copper wire thief.

A 33 year old man was taken into custody just off Pickering road, after he had removed copper wiring from a nearby utility pole.

Corporal Craig Douglass says the suspect then hauled the cable to the nearby abandoned BC Hydro building:

“Our investigation led us to check this building in which we found more of that same wire being burned there, and as you can see there is quite a distance between where this wire was cut and the actual building.”

Douglass couldn’t give an exact dollar figure on the wire stolen, and said its not entirely unusual to see a spike in copper wire thefts during the summer months.

However, he says it is concerning that the number of thefts has been increasing at such a rapid pace.

Douglass says the public should be aware of any suspicious smoke or burning activity and report it immediately.
