PG volleyball player signs on with TRU Wolfpack

The Thompson Rivers Wolfpack kept its pipeline to Prince George flowing by adding another piece to its men’s volleyball program.

Local product Deakon Anderson will kick off his varsity athletics career in Kamloops starting next season.

Standing at 6-5, Anderson’s head coach Pat Hennelly wanted a little bit more size to the lineup.

“Happy to keep the Prince George pipeline going with Deakon,” said Hennelly. “We have had a player from Prince George every year since 2005 and I’m pleased to have Deakon keep this streak going.”

TRU has had no shortage of PG products suit up ranging from Tim Flannigan and Graham Allard in 2005-06 to 2013-14 U SPORTS Outstanding Student-Athlete Award winner Colin Carson.

Anderson began playing high-level volleyball in Grade 9 when he joined his hometown club team, the PGYVC Kodiaks. Since then, he has continued to grow his game at both the club and high school levels.

“I chose to come to TRU because it is a great school with great facilities and everyone on the team is very friendly,” said Anderson. “I am a hardworking player that takes on any challenge.”

Anderson has been on the Wolfpack’s radar since shining at their PG summer camp last year.

He will be one of two PG-born players on the roster. The other is 3rd-year player Kyle McKee.
