This heat wave may have people cranking up the power to stay cool.
But BC Hydro is reminding them to be aware what that can do to the overall power load.
Spokesperson Simi Heer says there are a variety of things you can do.
“For example if you keep the blinds down and draw your curtains,” says Heer, “you can block up to 65% of the heat that would otherwise enter into your home.”

Heer says using a ceiling fan is the most efficient option for cooling.
Last weekend saw a 15% increase in the peak hourly load.
