The 9th Annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Night might still be six months away but the keynote speakers have been announced.
After a record-setting and unforgettable evening in 2022, the Timberwolves will welcome Chantelle and Warren Grafton on Thursday, November 9th.
“I cannot wait for the 9th Annual Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast. We have long wanted to welcome Chantelle and Warren Grafton to this event, and we are truly grateful they will join us as our keynote speakers,” said Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC Director of Athletics & Recreation. “Their story is incredible. Their resilience is awe-inspiring. It is going to be a truly memorable evening.”
UNBC graduates, competitive athletes, and world travelers, Chantelle and Warren Grafton had a created a life full of joy and purpose.
In June of 2019, the married couple had their idyllic lives turned upside down.
On a mountain biking trip, Chantelle was in an accident that left her quadriplegic, unable to feel anything from the neck down.
Following this, the Graftons pushed the boundaries of what is possible for an individual living with paraplegia.
“This will be a really interesting opportunity to share our story. If anything, this has brought Warren and I closer together than I ever thought possible,” said Chantelle. “Even the community coming together. We have been so supported by everyone. By our friends. It is amazing what people want to do for you, and to see you go out and succeed as much as you can.”
The Timberwolves Legacy event serves as a major fundraiser for UNBC Athletics, with every dollar raised going directly towards scholarships and bursaries for TWolves student-athletes.
“We are big UNBC people. A fundraiser for the athletic department is definitely something we want to be involved in,” said Warren. “We met at the Northern Sport Centre, and then eventually got hitched, so it’s important to us.”
Last year’s event, headlined by Humboldt Bronco Kaleb Dahlgren, raised a record $140,000 records for student-athlete scholarships and bursaries.
“Last year’s Legacy Night, transitioning from a morning to evening event, exceeded all expectations,” said Murdoch. “The support of our presenting sponsor, Canadian Tire, as well as all our partners and guests, truly blows me away every year. I think we are very excited to build on last year, and make it an even better night.”
Previous Legacy Breakfast keynote speakers include Hayley Wickenheiser, Pinball Clemons, Theo Fleury, Michael Landsberg, Jennifer Jones, Kady Dandeneau, Jon Cooper, and Kaleb Dahlgren.
Tickets will be made available on September 1st here.
