My PG Now was able to speak with Derek Travers, a Garrison and Event Coordinator with the 501st Legion, an international Star Wars Costuming Group, who are raising money for

the Hospice Palliative Care Society at the convention during the weekend.
“We raise money for charity when we dress up,” Travers explained, adding they charge a donation for fans to take a picture with their characters.
“Donation can be as small as you want or as large as you feel your heart will let you do,” he said.
Five or six of the members currently at Fancon are from the Prince George based “outer rim garrison,” but Travers said some people traveled from as far as Alberta and Vancouver to take part in the convention.
The characters pictured above are just a small slice of what the Legion is offering, he said characters rotate every hour.
“Come down, check it out,” Travers urged people. “It is one of the largest displays we have ever done. Come check us out, come support other vendors, and definitely please support the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society.”
