Province offers BC Teachers 6 year deal

Some development was made at the bargaining table between the BC Teachers’ Federation at the province, Thursday.

Peter Fassbender, Education Minister says the BC government would now accept a six year deal from teachers, versus a 10 year deal that had been a major sticking point during negotiations.

Fassbender also announced a signing bonus for a limited time offer.

Tina Cousins, President of the Prince George Teachers’ Association says the union’s approval of the deal depends on the details within.

Fassbender won’t say how much the bonus would be, but says the goal is to reach a contract by the end of this school year.

BCTF President Jim Iker (pictured) says teachers will be happy to have the ten years off the table and that it was always a “no go” for the union.
