RCMP’s Victim Services Unit, Fire Fighters Charitable Society real winners of Sirens Cup

The Prince George RCMP say the first-ever Sirens Cup between them and Prince George Fire Rescue was a success.

It wasn’t as much of a success on the ice for the RCMP, as the firefighters took the 9-5 win at the Kopar Memorial Arena Saturday afternoon.

“This is the first time in a very long time that police officers and fire fighters have played against one another in a hockey game here in Prince George,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

“It’s clear from the response we received that the community was just as excited as we were to have this matchup happen.”

Bragging rights were not the goal of the game, as $1,775 was raised for both the RCMP Victim Services Unit and the Fire Fighters Charitable Society.

Prince George RCMP Superintendent Shaun Wright contributed $50 to the fundraising total after losing a friendly wager with Fire Chief Cliff Warner.

The game was hosted by the Prince George Spruce Kings.
