PG RCMP, local firefighters strapping on the skates; hosting charity hockey game

Firefighters and police officers in Prince George are going to be taking their friendly rivalry onto the ice.

The first-ever Sirens Cup charity hockey game is taking place tomorrow (Saturday) at 4:30 pm from the Kopar Memorial Arena.

The money raised goes towards the RCMP Victim Services Unit and the PG firefighters Charitable Association.

Cpl. Jennifer Cooper explained how the idea all came about.

“What started out as whether this should be a casual event between everybody then morphed into a bigger event where we thought we could really bring some light to the friendly rivalry between these two organizations.”

Firefighter, Jason Geddes stated events like these are very common around the province.

“This is not anything new. This is actually done quite a bit throughout the province, there are certainly a lot of our charitable hockey games that go on. This has been done in the past and has sometimes been a joint effort between the two – sometimes against NHL alumni teams.”

The game is being hosted by the Prince George Spruce Kings who will be playing the Penticton Vees later that evening at 7 pm.

Anyone that purchases a ticket, can attend both games.
