After a pair of strong performances against the Winnipeg Wesmen, UNBC guard Alina Shakirova has been named the Canada West women’s basketball player of the week.
Shakirova posted a game-high 21 points during Saturday’s 66-64 victory over the nationally-ranked Wesman.

Twenty-four hours earlier, she recorded 17 points and six rebounds during Friday’s 72-65 loss against Winnipeg.
The fifth-year guard is seventh in the conference in scoring averaging just over 17 points per game.
