The Prince George Public Library is hoping that it will get some federal dollars to help pay for upgrades to its down town branch.
The city and the library have applied for the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program that reinvests in cultural and community facilities.
Chief Librarian Janet Marren says this will go towards the Library Enhancement Fund.
“It had a small collection of books, a very small staff, it got its first professional librarian shortly after that,” says Marren, “it moved into a building that still exists on Brunswick Street and that is the Senior’s Centre on Brunswick is our former library.”
Marren says the grant requires they have 50% of their total funding set aside for the project.
She says they expect to hear back from the federal government later this year.
