A lot more people traveled through the Prince George Airport in 2022 than the year before.
2022 saw 365,301 passengers pass through the airport, and 81 per cent jump from 2021.
“We’re really pleased with how the year turned out for us, certainly better than what we we’re forecasting at the beginning of the year,” said PG Airport Authority President and CEO Gord Duke.
“That puts us about probably 75 per cent of where we would be in a pre-covid year.”
The airport’s busiest month of the year was October when 38,341 passengers traveled through YXS.
Duke added one of the highlights of the year was bringing in the Flair Airlines service between Prince George and Tucson.
“We’re seeing some growth in that, certainly around things like Spring Break and Family Day, those flights are pretty well booked,” Duke said.
“There is some space available on the other times of the year, we recognize growing Tucson as a destination is not an immediate thing, and it’s going to take people a bit of time to go and visit Tucson, see what’s there, come back and tell their friends.”
Duke said they’re cautiously optimistic the recovery will continue into 2023.
“I think we should expect as air travel comes back and the airlines are able to add more capacity into their networks, we will see some growth on that 365,000 people.”
