More coming than going? PG experiences 6% spike in U-Haul traffic

Life is like riding a U-Haul.

The moving company issued its Growth Index survey for 2022 and while the northern capital did not crack the top 25 growth cities in Canada, they did see more arrivals than departures.

Last year, 51% of all one-way U-Haul traffic was arriving in Prince George while 49% was departing.

The number of arrivals on a year-over-year basis spiked by 6% while the volume of departures during the same time period stayed flat.

Chatham, Ontario was the top Canadian growth city.

Kelowna was BC’s highest-ranked city for arriving traffic claiming the 5th spot.

Other cities from our province that made the list included Chilliwack (10th), Salmon Arm (19th), Penticton (21st), and North Vancouver (23rd).

In terms of the provinces, arriving traffic accounted for 51.1% of all one-way U-Haul trucks coming and going from New Brunswick.

British Columbia ranked ninth, just ahead of Alberta, and witnessed more moving trucks leaving the province.

In 2021, BC ranked second behind Alberta in the survey.
