The Salvation Army food bank is expecting 2023 to be another busy year when it comes to demand.
A recent survey by Second Harvest, the country’s largest food rescue organization, shows reliance on food banks is expected to increase by 60 percent this year.
That follows a 134 percent spike last year.
Spokesperson, Roy Law told MyPGNow.com they usually see a lull in demand after Christmas followed by another rush just before spring.
“That increase does start coming in the next couple of months. We see it at Christmas time has sort of a layover and then it starts to increase again maybe in February.”
“We do think that there will be some increases. I have heard things are supposed to get a little better in the world in the latter half (of 2023) so I am crossing my fingers for that.”
He adds they have another food drive scheduled for the 28th at the Save on Food locations in PG.
Law also mentioned they are trying to access more federal and provincial grants to help ease some of the financial burdens.
