500 rides completed by Red Nose in Prince George – fewest since 2008

Operation Red Nose’s first year back from the pandemic saw some of the lowest usage in over a decade.

497 rides were given out by the by-donation Rotary Club program, which is just over half of what they made in 2019.

“The closest year similar to that is 2008,” said Ken Pendergast, Operation Red Nose’s chair.

He said dipping volunteer numbers impacted Red Nose across the country, and that 500 rides was their expectation and target this year.

“We had about 60 volunteers each night, for the nine nights we operated,” Pendergast said, around 100 people total volunteered over the holiday season.

In 2019, Red Nose completed over 900 rides in Prince George.

Nationally, across 74 communities, Red Nose gathered 22,903 volunteers who gave 26,412 people safe rides home.

BC saw 1,188 volunteers and 1,630 safe rides home.
