Vista Radio’s annual two-day Community Christmas Fundraiser for St. Vincent De Paul was another huge success thanks to the residents of Prince George and the area.
It is estimated that the event raised in excess of $40,000 between toys, food, clothing, diapers, and money brought into the 94.3 The Goat, Country 97 FM, and My Prince George Now studios on Ospika and Ferry.
This total does not include online donations, which were being collected alongside the physical ones outside the station.
The amount does include $22,801.05 in cash and cheques.
“It’s been awesome, the generosity of people has just been incredible,” said St Vincent’s Bernie Gould, who has been working with the organization for 43 years.
“Many, many homes will be brighter this Christmas morning, just because of the generosity of everyone.”
She estimates that over 150 families will be impacted by these donations this holiday season.
After day one of the campaign yesterday, Gould said one of the best donations they got was a box full of knitted scarves.
Today (Thursday), it was a box full of knitted slippers, ranging from infant-sized to full adult that caught her eye.
“Little children, six and seven, willing to give up a large toy for someone else, what a wonderful lesson in giving!” she said.
“Know that St Vincent’s could not do its work without the support of the community,” Gould added. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the privilege to help those who are challenged by poverty.”
