Hall sends off warning shot to those with derelict properties

Prince George’s Mayor wants to crack down on derelict properties in the city.

At Monday night’s council meeting, councillors agreed to take remedial action on two problem properties in the city.

One was on George Street where a fire broke out in a vacant lot a few weeks ago, the other was a yard on North Blackburn Road that has not been kept clean.

Mayor Lyn Hall says he was frustrated when the fire broke out on George Street.

“And realized that there was still part of a structure there, and had been there for multiple years and we hadn’t moved on it,” says Hall, “and so I talked to the City Manager and we needed action on that, we need to get of these unsightly places.”

City staff have given deadline for action to the property owners, and if they don’t comply the city will take further steps.
