More bone-chilling temperatures are on the weather menu for the Prince George area.
According to Environment Canada, the normal daytime for this time of year is minus two degrees – however, during this cold snap, it will range from -13 to -20, well over ten degrees below seasonal.
Meteorologist, Trevor Smith told Vista Radio while it will be chilly, it won’t be record-breaking.
“The daily record for November 29th in Prince George is a minimum of -33.8 and the all-time November low in Prince George if you can believe it is -41.7.”
Today’s predicted high for the northern capital is -13. In the evening, the temperature is expected to drop to -17 degrees, however, with the windchill, it will feel more like -29 with winds gusting between 40 to 60 kilometers per hour.
The area is expected to see periods of blowing snow tomorrow (Wednesday) with up to two centimetrers anticipated and a high of -16.
With the frigid system sticking around for a while yet, Smith stated residents will need to do their due diligence before heading outdoors.
“Don’t leave your skin too far exposed and minimize your time outside to the lowest extent possible.”
“It looks like we will be in the grips of this arctic air mass until early or the middle of next week. It’s going to be well-below average for the next several days and I think the key thing to be concerned about is the windchill temperatures.”
Smith expects this cold snap to last well into next week.
A blowing snow advisory is also in place for the city.
