No more left lane hogs.
That was the message from the ministry of transportation who announced that as of today drivers on multi-lane highways must stay to the right or face stiffer penalties.
The tweak to existing rules comes into place as Police clamp down on drivers using the left lane as a travel lane.
Minister of Transportation and Infrustructure Todd Stone, at a press conference today, had this to say:
“Now, last year we heard loud and clear from British Columbians in every corner of this Province as we conducted our rural highway and safety and speed review, that slow drivers using the left lane, slow drivers camping out in that left lane, not only cause frustration for drivers but they also cause accidents”
Stone says the previous wording in the motor vehicle act left too much room for interpretation and made it harder for law enforcement to enforce the provision.
The fine for those who should not be driving in the left lane is $167 and three driver penalty points.
