Final Investment decision looms for Prince Rupert LNG plant

One LNG project seems to be gaining ground in terms of setting up shop near Prince Rupert.

As Pacific NorthWest LNG has announced conditional approval for the $36 billion dollar project, saying they would confirm the final decision after an agreement from provincial legislature, and a positive environmental assessment.

Minister of Natural Gas development Rich Coleman was pleased to say that these conditions are more to do with approval than actual viability:

“We are pretty happy with this progress, obviously this is a pretty significant decision. Because the two conditions do not have to do with whether there is a market, they have already determined that there is a market for the gas, and whether the price for building the plant is competitive they have already determined that”

The proposed LNG export facility on Lelu island would be a massive capital investment project in the Province, and would provide close to 7,000 jobs in BC’s NorthWest.
