Riley Heidt named WHL Player of the Week

PG Cougars forward Riley Heidt is proving why he could be a first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Heidt was named this week’s WHL Player of the Week after posting nine points in just three games.

The Saskatoon product’s hot week started with a four-assist night Wednesday’s 8-6 loss to the Kelowna Rockets.

He was held to just one assist against the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night, before exploding for a hat-trick in Sunday’s rematch.

Heidt is currently in a tie for sixth in WHL scoring with 28 points (10 G, 18 A).

NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch List released in late October had Heidt ranked as an ‘A’ prospect, or a projected first-round pick.

The Cougars (10-9-0-0) will be on the road this upcoming weekend, as the Cats travel to Vitoria for a double-header with the Royals. (3-14-3-0)
