151 indoor shelter spaces open for winter weather in Prince George

The province has opened more indoor shelter spaces in Prince George.

According to the province, 151 spaces have been opened at the following locations:

  • AWAC Women’s Shelter, 144 George St., 30 permanent spaces, 10 temporary spaces
  • Ketso Yoh Centre Men’s Hostel, 140 Quebec St., 21 permanent spaces, 15 temporary spaces
  • Second Avenue Shelter, 1151 2nd Ave., 30 temporary spaces
  • Bridget Moran Place, 590 Dominion St., 30 permanent spaces, 15 temporary spaces

The permanent spaces are open throughout the year, while the temporary shelters are opened during the winter.

The province says, through BC housing, approximately 2,080 temporary winter shelter spaces have been funded province-wide, along with 480 extreme weather response shelters.

Rollover near Valemount results in two fatalities

Police say the vehicle was travelling east when it collided with a concrete barrier and flipped on to its roof, rolling a few times. The investigation remains ongoing and Mounties are working to find a cause.
