Majority of fires this season caused by people in PG region

The fire season in Prince George is off to a busy start.

Fire Information Officer Jill Kelsh says they have responded to 37 fires in the PG Fire Centre, 35 were caused by people, one by lightning and the other is unknown.

She says you can be fined up to $345 dollars for abandoning a fire.

Kelsh says the Centre has spent $35,000 putting out fires, this season.

She says they are also promoting safe backyard burning, advising people to check wind conditions before having a backyard burn.
