MLB:

The (92-70) Blue Jays finished second in the AL East and are the top wild-card team in the American League.

Toronto will host the Seattle Mariners in the best-of-three series with games Friday and Saturday (1:07 PM PT), plus Sunday (11:07 AM PT) if necessary.

The winner will advance to face the top-seeded Houston Astros in the best-of-five AL Division Series that will begin on Tuesday.

Canada West Soccer:

Goalie Daniel Zadravec of the UNBC Timberwolves is the U Sports men’s soccer player of the week after allowing just one goal in two games on the road against the UBC Thunderbirds.

Zadravec made six saves on seven shots in the 2-1 Friday victory and a day later turned away all 14 shots he faced in a 0-0 tie.

On Tuesday, Zadravec was named the Canada West men’s soccer player of the week.

The UNBC men’s soccer team is idle on the long weekend.

The (6-4-2) UNBC men are in third place out of seven teams in Pacific Division.

They have four regular season games left: at home on Oct 15th and 16th at noon each day against UBCO and on the road at Fraser Valley on Oct 21st and 23rd.

Timberwolves striker Michael Henman leads Canada West in scoring with 16 goals.

The UNBC Timberwolves host the (6-3-1) Calgary Dinos in Canada West women’s soccer Friday and Saturday at noon at Masich Place Stadium.

The (3-5-2) UNBC women are sixth out of eight teams in the Pacific Division.

They conclude their regular season with home games against TRU on October 14th at 6 PM and vs. UBCO on October 16th at noon.

NFL:  

Week five of the NFL season starts tonight (Thursday 5:15 PT) with (1-2-1) Indianapolis at (2-2) Denver.

Philadelphia is the only unbeaten team at 4-0, seven teams are 3-1 and 15 teams are 2-2.

Week 18 of the CFL season begins Friday (4:30 PT) with (6-9) Saskatchewan at (4-10)

The B.C. Lions visit the (8-6) Toronto Argonauts Saturday afternoon at 1:00 (PT).

The (10-4) Lions are tied with the (10-5) Calgary Stampeders for second in the CFL West Division behind the (13-2) Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

BC Football Conference:

The (1-8) Prince George Kodiaks conclude their first season in the BC Football Conference with a home game Saturday night at 7:00 at Masich Place Stadium against the (9-0) Okanagan Sun.

NHL: (preseason)

Vancouver Canucks  5  Edmonton Oilers  4

The Canucks host the Arizona Coyotes Friday night at 7:00 in their final preseason game.

Vancouver is 1-3-2 in six exhibition games.

The Canucks begin their regular season Wednesday, October 12th at Edmonton.

NHL regular season games will begin in Prague as the Nashville Predators and the San Jose Sharks meet in a doubleheader Friday and Saturday (11 a.m. PT each day).

The (2-2) Prince George Cougars are on the road this week.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

The U18 female Northern Capitals visit the (4-0) Fraser Valley Rush Saturday afternoon at 1:45 and Sunday morning at 8:45 in Langley.

The Capitals are 1-4-1 on the season after they lost three and tied one in their four games played at the league showcase this past weekend in Surrey.

The (2-2) U18 Cariboo Cougars are back in action on October 15th and 16th when they host the Thompson Blazers.

The U18 Cougars won both of their weekend games against the Valley West Giants by a 3-2 score on both Saturday and Sunday.
