The Prince George Cougars will be doing their part to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Just prior to tomorrow’s (Friday) game against the Kelowna Rockets, a pre-game ceremony will take place and include a video presentation documenting the Cougars’ visit to the former site of the Lejac Residential School.
“We thank both the Lheidli T’Enneh and Nadleh Whut’en First Nations for partnering with us and for helping our players, coaches and staff better understand the truth about residential schools so we can walk together on the path towards reconciliation. We have been honoured by their commitment to educating us to be better leaders in our community,” said Director, Business Taylor Dakers.
The ceremony will also include a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the Residential Schools, and a ceremonial puck drop involving Elder Clifford Quaw
and Chief Martin Louie.
The Cougars encourage all fans attending the game to wear orange shirts.
Puck drop is at 7pm from CN Centre.
