Theatre Northwest bringing “Becoming Dr. Ruth” to the stage

Theatre Northwest is getting ready to bring full productions back to the stage.

The theatre will be hosting productions of Becoming Dr. Ruth, a one person show by Mark St. Germain, and directed by Mark Bellamy.

“It’s been great fun, Natascha Girgis, who plays Dr. Ruth, she and I have known each other for over 30 years,” Bellamy said.

“The fun part about this for me is, this is the first time I’ve directed a one-person show, so you’ve only got one actor in the room all the time, they’re working really hard.”

The play follows Dr. Ruth Westheimer’s journey in becoming America’s most famous sex therapist.

“I think everyone knows who Dr. Ruth is, or has an idea of what they think Dr. Ruth is,” Bellamy explained.

“What you find out in this play, what you learn in this play, is a lot more about her life, her history, how she survived the holocaust, and how she ended up becoming who she is today.”

Opening night for the show is this Thursday (Sept. 22nd), and will run until October 12th.
