Trey Jones looked a lot like John Elway slicing and dicing through the opposing defense.
The third-year quarterback tossed four touchdowns passes for the Langley Rams on Saturday, enroute to a 43-16 thrashing against the Prince George Kodiaks at Masich Place Stadium in BC Football Conference action.
After carrying a 7-3 edge at the end of the first quarter, Langley tallied 36 unanswered points including a stretch where they outscored PG 21-0 in the third quarter.
Jones went 20-for-32 recording 309 passing yards while his brother Terel led the Rams in receptions catching seven passes for 91 yards.
The 2021 CJFL Canadian Bowl Champions improve to 3-4 on the season and Jones told MyPGNow.com the late-season victories are key as teams jockey for playoff positioning.
“These wins are very important. We gotta just keep grinding them out, keep winning and to make the playoffs and go from there,” added Jones.
One of Jones’ best throws came on a 3rd and 20 situation where he connected with Aaron Linden for a touchdown.
Derek Best led the Rams rushing attack carrying the ball nine times for 94 yards and a touchdown.
For the Kodiaks (1-5), they had a woeful night on the offensive side registering just 170 total yards.
Sam Sabine, Keagan Henderon and Liam Oczkowski all took snaps under centre for PG amassing 170 yards of offense.
Sabine had the most success tossing his first career touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to fellow rookie and Saltcoats, Saskatchewan product Andrew Brown.
After the game, Kodiaks head coach and director of football operations, Keon Raymond told MyPGNow.com the team was nowhere near its best coming off a bye-week.
“We didn’t score points, we didn’t move the ball and we didn’t stop anybody. I think they (Langley) scored on their first seven drives and we can’t play winning football like that. We came out flat and we couldn’t do anything right tonight and for us to expect and come out with a victory, we just didn’t come out and play winning football.”
“I told the boys before the game, we’ve got everything that we need in the locker room and for the most part the guys are not focusing or dialing in and to me, I take the blame of it along with the rest of our coaching staff. We’ll get that fixed but now we have to dig ourselves out of a deeper hole now.”
In other BCFC action, the Okanagan Sun outlasted the Westshore Rebels 34-31 while the Valley Huskers outlasted the Vancouver Island Raiders 62-41.
Next week, the Kodiaks travel to Kamloops to play the Broncos (2-4) at Hillside Stadium on Saturday (September 17th).
