Cougars hire alumni Carter Rigby as new assistant coach

The preseason moves are not just on the ice for the Cougars this year.

Carter Rigby will be the newest addition to behind the Cats’ bench this season as an assistant coach.

“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity Mark Lamb has given me to join the
Cougars,” said Rigby. “It’s exciting to be at the WHL level and I can’t wait to learn from Mark and Josh.”

The 28 year old spent five years in the WHL, including time with the Cougars – although just for seven games between the 2009-10 and 10-11 seasons.

He finished his WHL career playing in Swift Current, where both Cougars GM and Head Coach Mark Lamb and Assistant Coach Josh Dixon were coaching at the time.

“It’s nice to know the staff, having played for them (Lamb and Josh) in Swift Current. It’s been my goal to get to the WHL and I am so excited to work with the great group of young talent in PG. I was drafted by Prince George and its funny how things come full circle. To be able to come in and coach, do what I love to do, I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity” said Rigby.

The Cougars won their first preseason game last night against the Vancouver Giants, and will play the Victoria Royals in Port Coquitlam tonight at 7:00.
