A fifth mayoral candidate has officially filed paperwork for their campaign.
Simon Yu is a local structural engineer and businessman who immigrated to Prince George from Hong Kong in 1975, his name will be one of five (so far) on the mayoral ballot in October.
“He arrived in Prince George with nothing, he believes he owes this city everything” Yu’s agent Amanda Chandler told My PG Now.
Yu’s campaign will be centered around committing to affordability and transparency in city hall, creation of a multi-generational development plan for the city and the creation of a business environment that will “launch Prince George into its global northern capital potential,” said Chandler.
Addiction, mental health and homelessness are also major issues Chandler says he will approach practically with other levels of government, a topic every candidate has talked about so far.
Yu will have an official campaign announcement on Wednesday (September 7) at 12:15pm at the base of Mr. PG.
The other mayoral candidates to date are Chamber of commerce CEO Todd Corrigall, businessman Chris Wood, current member of City Council Terri McConnachie, and lawyer Roy Stewart.
The election will be on October 15th.
