The first person to put their name forward to be Prince George’s new mayor has come forward.
Chamber of Commerce CEO Todd Corrigall announced this morning (Wednesday) that he is running for mayor in the fall municipal election.
“Over the past five years I’ve been fortunate to serve as the CEO for the Prince George Chamber of Commerce,” Corrigall said.
“During this time I was able to re-envision process, focus on policy, advocacy, and building a better community through open communication, bold action, and transparent processes.”
Corigall said Prince George is poised to become one of the best communities in BC, and that requires vision and leadership qualities.
“We have not seen enough of this in recent years, we cannot continue to avoid making decisions, or push decisions to un-elected officials out of fear,” he said.
“We need a Mayor that is willing to stand up for our community, the people, the businesses that have chosen to make Prince George their home.”
Corrigall says his campaign is focused on four key areas:
- A safe and livable community
- Respect for taxpayers
- A local government that actually listens
- Positive change, real leadership
“Too often this city asks us for our feedback, and then ignores what they’ve heard, pushing forward with their own agenda,” Corigall said.
“This practice cannot continue. We need accountable leaders who truly believe in listening to those who have elected to serve them.”
Corrigall’s announcement comes two days after current Mayor Lyn Hall said he would not seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election.
Election day is October 15th.
