ICYMI: Ginters Green Forever group to present to City Council

With Files from Darin Bain

The Ginter’s Green Forever Group is taking the next step in making its goals a reality.

The group will be presenting to Prince George City Council tonight (August 15th).

A Community Organizer for the Group, Jenn Matthews, said there are two main areas that need to be addressed for keeping the space green; the city’s long-term planning which includes two major road developments through the area, and the fact that the park isn’t actually a park.

“Those are the areas we’re going to address with City Council on Monday,” Matthews said.

“Ask them to take those road extensions out of the official community plan, and make that area an actual, official park.”

She said the area is facing another threat involving the private land around the area.

“We’re going to see how this meeting goes on Monday, and that will really determine our next step,” Matthews explained.

If the road extensions are removed from the community plan and the area is designated a park, the plan is to start focusing on the private land.

“[We’ll] engage with the city first to see what options they see might be on the table,” Matthews said.

Council will also be discussing their Naloxone pilot project with Bylaw Officers tonight.

Tonight’s City Council meeting will start at 6:00 and can be streamed online here.
