UNBC and SD57 ink deal for dual credit program

A new program to to help high school students take university courses has been inked between School District 57 and UNBC.

The school district’s board has agreed to a dual credit program that will see students doing university classes and getting high school credit.

Principal Lee Karpenko says students who want to do this have to meet the entrance requirements.

“There is a process where school counsellors and school principals are involved,” says Karpenko, “and then if they meet the entrance requirements they can early entrance into select university courses that are transferable anywhere in the province.”

Karpenko says some of the classes that the students will be taking are anthropology, environmental science, and Aboriginal studies.

The program is set to come into effect for September 1st.
