UNBC balances budget, hikes tuition

A $75 million operating budget has been approved at UNBC, with a 2% tuition increase.

The university passed its balanced budget that sees a temporary decrease in the utilities budget based on last year’s results.

President Dr. Daniel Weeks says this year’s budget brings in pieces that would have been done separate.

“When you add in Ancillary Services as well, its about an $85 million dollar budget so its pretty significant,” says Weeks, “we are in a balanced position, we have a few challenges, but overall I’m very optimistic.”

Weeks says declining enrolment is one of the challenges that UNBC faces.

The tuition fee for a full-time undergraduate will now be $5,010 per year.
