New name announced for PG Montessori program

A new name has been announced for the Montessori program in Prince George.

School District 57’s Board of Trustees has approved the name Polaris Montessori Elementary School.

Principal Karin Paterson says the chose the name from 191 submissions.

“And that was from all the different stake holders,” says Paterson, “by the time the names were reduced, there were 39 names once the duplications were gone, and then it went to a vote by the staff.”

Paterson says other name options for the school included Living Tree, Trillium and Borealis.

After Ministry of Education approval, the name change is expected to effective on September 1st.
