PG RCMP pull four impaired drivers off the streets Saturday night

The Prince George RCMP is reminding the public to make sure they are enjoying themselves responsibly when it comes to celebrating, or commiserating a sports teams’ wins and losses.

On Saturday, Prince George RCMP officers were patrolling in the area of Domano Boulevard and St. Laurence Avenue and witnessed several vehicles leaving the softball diamond area.

Between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m., police stopped four drivers who were found to be impaired by alcohol.

Investigators used an Approved Screening Device to determine the levels of impairment.

Three of the four drivers produced a “fail” reading, and the fourth driver produced a “warn” reading.

According to Prince George RCMP Spokesperson, a “warn” reading is between 50 and 100 mg percent of blood alcohol, and a “fail” is anything over 100.

“If you are old enough to buy liquor then you are old enough to understand the consequences of driving while impaired,” said Cooper.

The drivers who produced a “fail” reading were issued a 90-day driving prohibition, and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

The driver with the “warn” reading was issued a three-day driving prohibition, and their vehicle was impounded for three days.

“We do see an uptick in this type of behavior as people are out enjoying things away from home a little bit more, so whether it be camping, sports, activities, things like that,” Cooper said.

“If you are going to be consuming alcohol when you are away from your home, or any intoxicating substance that could impair your ability to drive, if you’re doing that away from home, make sure that you are going to be arranging a safe and sober ride home.”
