The Prince George Alano Society provides services and support for Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
On top of the meetings they hold, House Manager Al Spencer said they have a kitchen where they provide meals, and they’re making some improvements too.
“We’re bring the building up to snuff, and really doing some stuff to enhance the building and the services that we offer.”
Spencer said they are expanding the building, they just replaced some of the flooring, and will be replacing the water tank, as well as the two furnaces.
“This building is over 50 years old, so the flooring downstairs was all vinyl, and it was cracked, and it was falling apart, and it was in dire need of some attention.”
He added that they are making the building wheelchair accessible, and are also adding a handicap bathroom.
Spencer said with the building expansion, he’s also hoping to add another cook to the roster as well, but said that the recent rise in prices is affecting things.
“Unfortunately the big part, the downfall at this point, is the price of food. Of course, as we all know the food prices have increased exponentially, and the provincial government has now said the Alano Society has to break even. So we’ve had to adjust our menu and our prices.”
He noted that the Prince George community has been very supportive, adding that they are seeing their sales pick up, and they are receiving donations.
