Six groups in Prince George are receiving provincial grants to help prevent domestic violence, assist people experiencing gender-based violence, and support Indigenous people recovering from trauma.
The grants come through the Civil Forfeiture Crime Prevention and Remediation Grant program.
“We are building safer communities by redirecting the profits of crime into projects that prevent gender-based and domestic violence, and connect victims with the services they need,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
“The organizations receiving Civil Forfeiture Crime Prevention and Remediation Grants are essential partners in our government’s work to combat crime. I thank them for helping to create a stronger, more resilient province.”
The grants are being awarded among six streams, including:
- Gender-based violence,
- Domestic violence prevention and intervention programming,
- Indigenous healing,
- Human trafficking, sexual exploitation and sex worker safety;
- Restorative justice; and
- Child and youth advocacy centres.
The Prince George organizations and projects receiving the grant are:
- Carrier Sekani Family Services Society, First Nations CYAC, $69,995
- Carrier Sekani Family Services, Sons of the Land, $30,000
- RCMP, Victim Services Family Liason Role, $62,823
- Prince George Sexual Assault Cenre, Sexual Exploitation of Youth Exiting Services, $30,000
- Takla Nation, Takla Community Healing Workshop Series, $30,000
- Nusdeh Yoh School, Nusdeh Yoh Eagle Nest Summer Day Camp, $14,070
- Tsay Keh Dene Nation, Tse’khene Matriarchs Mentorship, $23,700
In total, 121 projects are receiving their share of $4.3 million throughout the province.
