PG sees steep climb in building permit project values

The City of Prince George has seen the value of projects being built in the area rise dramatically over the past three years in a report to City Council last night (Monday).

In 2020 between January and April, the number of building and development permits handed out was 118, with a total value of $21,096,944.64.

That jumped to 150 permits with a total value of $51,641,288.01 in 2021.

The number of permits handed out this year for that time period dropped to 135, but the total value skyrocketed to $73,039,530.06.

That increase is mostly seen in new commercial and new industrial developments, with seven new commercial permits handed out worth over $28 million in total, and four new industrial permits handed out with a total value over $10 million.

In terms of new homes being built, the City broke down the number of residential building permits between March and April:

  • 15 new single family dwellings in March valued at $7,921,672 in total.
  • 5 multi family alterations in March valued at $281,852 in total.
  • 6 new multi family dwellings in March valued at $2 million in total.
  • 14 new single family dwellings in April valued at $7,557,194 in total.
  • 4 single family alterations in April valued at $151,384 in total.
